Last Blog from New York
I'm going home tomorrow! Finals are over (I may have gotten all A's this semester! ), I went shopping all day today and took last minute pictures of Christmas in New York. I'm all packed and ready to go. So this is probably my last blog for the year. Since the title is "Olivia in New York" I guess that means I don't have to blog from home, so you can't call me a slacker! But I'll probably blog from home once in a while!

Department Holiday Parties
Our department had a holiday party brunch yesterday. Lots of food and even Santa showed up. I heard that it was someone from our department, but I couldn't tell who it was. After the department party, the students had a party of their own. Potluck style, but being students, it was all junk food, like chips and cookies. Although we did have drinks our own 'bartender' who made us daiquiri martinis upon request. Took lots of pictures, which I will post soon.

Happy Holidays everyone!

My new favorite drink
I find myself going to Starbucks a lot recently, just to get their holiday special, the peppermint hot chocolate. I tried the caramel apple cider, another holiday special, but I'm really liking the hot cocoa. They even put whipped cream with red sprinkles on top. Mmmm. Just the right amount of peppermint taste with the chocolate to put me in the holiday spirit. I will be sad when they don't have this anymore... Just right now, I promoted up to a Grande instead of a Tall. It was 25 cents more and worth every penny.

Christmas in New York!
Yesterday after my final, I met up with my friend Audrey who came up to New York for the day from UPenn and we walked around the city and checked out the Christmas-y sites, like Rockefeller Center, Saks Fifth Avenue window displays, Times Square, and Macy's. It was nice, but !very very cold. I took a couple of pictures with my new digital camera, but after a short while the battery ran out! I forgot to charge it the night before, and it hadn't been charged in a while. Now I know to charge it whenever I want to use it.

Three down, one to go!
Three finals down, one to go (tomorrow!) Then I'm done! Yippee!

Transit Strike Delayed
I have been watching the news a lot lately, to see the progress of the possible transit strike... At midnight last night, which was supposedly the deadline, they announced that they're still negotiating and that the strike is delayed. Yipee! But that doesn't meet it won't happen. It just means that it's not happening right now.

Hallelujah Chorus
I went to mass last night at St. Paul's on campus and it was fun because after mass, everyone was asked to go up on the altar, separate into sopranos, altos, tenors, and basses, and we sang the Hallelujah Chorus! I felt like I was back in high school in our Winter Pops concert singing that song...

Finals Week
Today I have my first final of the week! Wish me luck!

Happy Friday the 13th!
I'm not superstitious, are you?

My second home these days - the library
Yes, I am constantly in the library hours at a time, studying for my finals on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. After that... it's party time! Actually, it will be SHOPPING time after that, since I have 2 days here in New York before I fly home on Sunday the 22nd. Time for shopping and taking pictures of Christmas in New York.

Study Break
Johanna and I are going to take a study break tonight and go eat at this Filipino restaurant that her roommate recommended to us.

Justin on TRL (again)
I think Justin is going to be on TRL today, so maybe I'll stop by the studios and take pictures with my new digital camera (from Alan for Christmas! He gave it to me early so I can use it over here! Thanks!!! I love it!) He was supposed to be meeting fans at the FYE store, but I called and they said he cancelled. Could it have anything to do with his broken foot? (I saw him on TV with Regis & Kelly on Wednesday and he was limping around with a cast.)

Hilarious!
I was on the Conan O'Brien site and clicked on this link: If They Mated which shows pictures of two people, and resulting morph of both of them together. Some of these were so funny that I was laughing outloud for minutes at a time! Really funny pics!

Last Day Of Classes!
Today was the last day of classes! I had two classes today and now I'm done until finals next week. I have one on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday! This whole week is study week!

Fun Weekend at Home
So my flight on Friday morning wasn't cancelled, so I got to go home! Friday, we went to Heidi's Winter Pops concert at Saint Ignatius, where she was honored because it is her senior year and she has been in all four years of Winter Pops. My parents got to stand up and receive the award. We were all so proud of her :)

On Saturday, we went to Christmas Madness, a gift-exchange party at Paul's house. We played the White Elephant gift exchange game, and there were many interesting gifts, such as a huge Sponge Bob Squarepants doll, a fingerprint kit, an edible bra, Angie's tassles top, and the one that I ended up with - a Cosmopolitan Makeover Software kit, where you can use a digital picture of yourself and put different hairstyles and looks on yourself. I can't wait to try it! We also each brought an ornament which represented ourselves and decorated their tree. We also played Taboo - girls vs. guys - and of course, the girls won! And there was food. Lots of yummy food.

Uh-oh! A transit strike in NYC!
There might be a transit strike in New York next week, which means the subway and buses won't be running! I hope it doesn't happen, or else I'll have to find another way to get to my finals! At least there is a Columbia shuttle from the Health Sciences campus to the main campus that I might be able to take. We'll see how it goes...

Let It Snow!
It is completely snowing today! My first snow of New York, how exciting. I woke up this morning and all the rooftops were white with snow. (The picture above I took with my webcam outside my window. It's the building across the street's roof). When I walked out of the building, all bundled up, the ground was about 3 inches deep with snow. It's good I have my Timberland boots here with me. I felt like if I had my snowboard with me, I could cruise down the street on it, like a skateboard.

Flight cancelled!
I was supposed to go home tonight on a 9:30pm flight, and it's good that I checked the status online before I went to the airport, because it was cancelled. I wonder if they were ever going to contact me about that... Anyway, I called and was put on hold for about 15 minutes, and rescheduled my flight to tomorrow morning at 6:45am. I hope it stops snowing by then.

One final down, three to go
I had my Genomics final this morning. The test was do-able, but very long. It's good we got extra time to finish. So, that class is done! Yay! My first graduate school course finished. Yay me :)

Alan: Happy 3 YEAR Anniversary! 1435!

Blog Slacker
Yes, yes. I know I'm slacking. But I have good excuses:
  • I just got back from home yesterday and have been trying to catch up with everything.
  • I had homework due today, due tomorrow, due Thursday, and a final on Thursday too! Can you say stressed out???
  • It's too damn cold here (19 degrees this morning!) that my brain can't function properly.

Weekend summary
I had a great Thanksgiving at home! Great shopping day on the day after Thanksgiving. Alan's housewarming was so much fun! (read his blog for details and pics.) My flight back was the best airplane flight I have ever taken. It was on JetBlue and they really deserve all the high praise that they get. The flight attendants were so friendly and helpful, right when you step on the plane - they help you to put your carry-on luggage into the overhead bins! Oh, and every seat is leather and has a screen in front of it, with DirecTV with 25 channels. Too bad it was at night because I was sleepy and couldn't take advantage of the TV.

Going home on Thursday!
I can't wait until this week is over.... Until then...
