Back in New York for a couple of days! I came back on Monday since summer session started on Tuesday, but I'm going back home on Friday morning for Heidi's graduation from SI! I think I go home too much, what do you think? oh well... I like going home! Presenting Am I the only one who gets really nervous before giving a presentation? I had to give a 20 minute presentation yesterday and the whole day my heart was racing and I couldn't concentrate. I think I get more nervous before the presentation compared to during the presentation... I think it went well though. I'm glad it's over. It's not summer yet Weather here is really weird. Loving the California Sun! What a great week to come back home! The weather is so nice.... haha to those in New York, where it's raining :) New thing Check out Friendster. It's this new online thing, where you can store friends, and then see who their friends are, and their friends, etc. It's like 6 degrees to yourself, or however many degrees you want.... Daytime Emmy Awards 2003 The Daytime Emmys were so fun!! I saw a lot of my favorite General Hospital stars along with other daytime talk show hosts, like Wayne Brady, The View hosts, Kelly Ripa, and even Elmo! haha. It was a lot of fun... I was sitting in a section where there were a lot of GH fans, so it was fun! Check out the pics! Going home! Last minute plans.... I'm going home tonight!!! The Matrix Reloaded I saw the first showing of The Matrix Reloaded at the AMC in Times Square yesterday at 10:55am. I underestimated the number of people that would be there on a Thursday morning! The theater was packed! I got there at 10:30am and bought a ticket, went to the theater, and found a single seat. The ads stopped playing at 10:55am, but the screen was blank for about 5 minutes!! The people were getting restless, yelling at the screen... one guy even jumped over all the seats and started knocking on the window in the back where the people playing the movie were supposed to be. It finally started playing the previews about 10 minutes later, but there was no sound! What an ordeal. The movie finally started, sound and everything, and it was great! Daytime Emmy Awards! Tonight I'm going to see my favorite soap starts at the Daytime Emmy Awards at Radio City Music Hall... Maybe I'll see my General Hospital favorites, since a couple of them are nominated! I'm debating whether or not to dress up, since it's supposed to rain tonight... Summer Vacation begins! Today is my first day of summer break. Summer school starts back up again on May 27th, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do in the meantime... relax and have fun in the city! Wednesday, May 14, 2003
My eyes are bugging out That's what 9 hours straight in the library, working on a take-home final will do to you. At least I'm almost done. One more question. I think I'll give my eyes a break and do it either later tonight or tomorrow. It's due at 8pm tomorrow anyway... I'm feeling more relieved that I did last night though. Almost done! Can't sleep Whenever I have a lot of work to do, I end up not sleeping as well as I could. I even end up dreaming about the work I have to do, how to do it, and I wake up in the morning feeling anxious and ready to do the work... Is that a good thing? Hmmm. maybe not. Dawson's Creek On a lighter note, I'm going to give myself a treat today and watch the last episode ever of Dawson's Creek. Well, it's not really a treat. Cilantro! This morning, I went to Chinatown to buy rice and I passed by a store that had vegetables in front. I asked the guy if they had cilantro, and lo and behold! there it was. I could totally smell the difference between it and the parsley yesterday. And it was only 50 cents!! I should go to Chinatown more often to buy cheap vegetables, meat, and seafood (I bought a pound of shrimp too and cooked sinigang today!) Hopefully I'll be able to tell the difference next time I want to buy it. Last Final I finally got my last final through email today (it's a take-home) due on Thursday night. My last final of the semester! I'll be celebrating when I'm done with it... I don't know if I prefer take-home finals vs. in-class ones. I think take-home is the immediate choice, but when you think about it, in-class tests give you a set amount of time... If you don't know it, you don't know it. For take-home ones, you have time to look up the answers etc etc. I think I like in-class tests better. Chin Dimple Since when has Clark Kent (Tom Welling on Smallville) had a chin dimple? I was watching it last night and I noticed it for the first time! Has he always had it? BTW, Smallville was soooo good! I love that show! Monday, May 12, 2003
Free Saturday in New York Saturday, while taking a break from studying for finals, I took advantage of all the FREE events going on in the city. I went to the Tribeca Film Festival Outdoor Fair in Tribeca. It was a family fair, so there was a lot of stuff for kids, like puppets, shows, and book readings. I got free popcorn, soda, iced tea, frappucino samples, even OREO popcorn (really good)! I bumped into Whoopi Goldberg and said hi... After I left the fair, I went to Central Park because I heard that Jewel was giving a free concert. It was called the Intuition Fair, and they were promoting the new Schick razor Intuition. I got some free razors and baby tees! There, they were giving out Coldstone Ice Cream for everyone who watched the concert. Jewel was really good... she sang some songs from her new album and then sang old songs like "Who Will Save Your Soul" and "Foolish Games" for the finale. It was a great show!!! Check out the pics! I'm gonna go to all the free concerts/plays/events in the city during the summer. Why not take advantage of this great city? Cilantro vs. Parsley For some reason, I have trouble distinguishing cilantro from parsley. I went to the grocery store today to buy cilantro and tomatoes, because I wanted to make salsa, but I apparantly I picked up parsley and not cilantro (according to the cashier lady). This happened to me twice before at Manila Oriental Market back home in Daly City. I thought I could tell the difference, but obviously not. Now I'm stuck with lots of tomatoes and no cilantro to make salsa.... sad. Database class done! I took my database final today and it went well, I think. That class is over and done with... Free Movie Screening Last night I went to a free movie preview screening of J.M. Barrie's Neverland which is the story of how the author came to write Peter Pan. I got the free pass from Johanna's roommate. There were a lot of people in line one hour before showtime already. It's good I got there early. The theater was packed, and the movie was really good. I cried at the end, which is a sign that it's a good movie (to me, anyway). I think it comes out late this year or early 2004. Definitely go see it. New favorite I bought 2 tin cans of Altoids Tangerine Sours at Rite-Aid last week, and I'm hooked!! They're really sour at first, but become really sweet later. I remember I tasted them when they were giving away free samples back in September.... Try them. They're 'curiously strong'. DVD player woes I hate my DVD player on my laptop! It doesn't work anymore!! I'm so mad. Sometimes it plays the DVD for about 3 seconds, then freezes. The drive stops reading the disk, the light doesn't blink anymore, and just goes dead. Sometimes it doesn't even read the DVD at all, and doesn't play at all. What to do? I emailed Dell but got a very very unhelpful response. I might just buy a DVD player on ebay.... sad. Revlon Run/Walk for Women in NYC On Saturday, I did the Revlon Run/Walk for Women here in New York. It started at Times Square, where there was an opening ceremony. The hosts included Diane Sawyer, Renee Zellweger, Jennifer Connelly (from A Beautiful Mind), and Julianne Moore. The walk was 5K, and went up Broadway, through Central Park, and ended up at East Meadow in Central Park. There were a whole bunch of booths, free food like bananas, sandwiches, and bottles of water, and other free samples, like Revlon lipstick and Advil. It was pretty fun to walk. The day started off as cloudy but by the middle of the walk the sun came out. Classic I rented The Sound of Music from the library and am watching it right now. I'm really into musicals, even the old ones now... I remember watching this movie when I was young... It'll bring back good memories. A week off I have a week off between finals and summer school, so I'm trying to figure out what to do. Possibilities include: visiting my friend Adrienne in Boston and visiting my aunt and cousins in North Carolina. Maybe I'll do both! Wade Robson in Central Park? Yesterday, Eileen, Rick, Johanna and I were walking through Central Park, heading towards Serendipity, when a horse carriage passes us carrying a familiar-looking guy. Johanna and Eileen looked at each other, and then me, and although I didn't realize it until they told me what they were thinking, it kinda did look like the famous choreographer (worked with Britney/NSYNC...). We tried to catch up, and we did... walking alongside the carriage, trying not to look to obvious that we were staring at him. Rick didn't think it was him.... I guess we'll never know. Wow. Non-stop visitors Rick and Eileen were here in New York this past weekend. Also, my friend from Berkeley Raissa came to New York this weekend for interviews and grad school orientation and stayed at my apartment. So this past weekend, I had a lot of fun, eating at different restaurants, pre-partying before going out, and going to Bob's. We ate at Flor de Mayo, which is a Chinese/Cuban/Peruvian restaurant... Sounds weird, but was really good. We also went to Dallas BBQ, which has really good chicken and ribs for a really good price. We went to Serendipity today to get dessert and Eileen got the famous Frrrrrozen Hot Chocolate. Raissa and I saw Def Poetry Jam which was really good. I'm glad I got to see it because they closed on Sunday! Lots of good spoken word and poetry about different topics. I also watched a small production of the musical Chess yesterday in Brooklyn. It was a really small theater company, small theater (100 people max) and the actors seemed really young... well, maybe not too young- sort of my age. But it was a good show and it was funny how I knew the songs (from Heidi's production of Chess at SI.) Too bad Heidi wasn't here to watch it too. Hell Week Over Last week was a pretty busy week after Alan left and before more visitors came. I finished my projects and finished up the semester today (it was the last day of classes). Two finals next week and then I'm done with my second semester here! Sad Been feeling kind of sad lately.... Maybe it's because I've had visitors non-stop for the past 3 weeks and now it seems empty. But I guess it's good, so I have time to study for finals. And the weather is being really weird... really sunny and hot one minute and then rainy and cloudy the next. Hoepfully when summer finally comes, it'll be warmer and sunnier all the time. The weather definitely contributes to my mood. I miss home and my family and Alan!! New York would be funner if I knew more good friends here.. |
